This year's event is going virtual, meaning the MORE THAN PINK Walk is in your backyard, your neighborhood, a local park, or wherever else you can gather safely!

How will people living with metastatic breast cancer be included in the event?
We are passionate about saving lives from breast cancer and engaging everyone who is impacted by this disease. We strongly encourage those with metastatic breast cancer to join us and be a part of the campaign. While metastatic disease is responsible for most of the 40,000 U.S. breast cancer deaths each year, many people who are living with metastatic disease have felt left out of many breast cancer events. The reality is their experience inspires us to work harder and to do more. The MORE THAN PINK Virtual Walk enables us to acknowledge and welcome these members of our breast cancer family with a special dark pink T-Shirt that will be given to everyone who registers and identifies as living with metastatic breast cancer. These T-Shirts will be available for pick-up only at a socially distanced site, to be determined the week of October 5, 2020.

Do I get a T-Shirt?
All participants who raise a minimum of $100 will receive a commemorative event T-Shirt available for pick-up only at a socially distanced site, to be determined the week of October 5, 2020.

Survivors who register will receive a pink T-Shirt and those living with metastatic breast cancer will receive a darker pink T-Shirt. If survivors and those living metastatic breast cancer fundraise $100 or more they may also receive a gray Walk T-Shirt. Both T-Shirts will be available for pick-up only at a socially distanced site, to be determined, the week of October 5, 2020.

How much is the registration fee?

Virtual participant registration fees is $15 for all participant types NOW - October 11, 2020.

Online registration will be available up until the morning of the event.

Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
No, your registration fee is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not tax deductible. However, any amount that you choose to donate above the entry fee is tax-deductible.

What is included in the registration fee?

How can I become a volunteer?
The success of the Komen Inland Empire MORE THAN PINK Walk has depended heavily on the support received from volunteers in the months leading up to the event and at the Walk. While in-person volunteer opportunities are unavailable at the moment, we are encouraging all past volunteers to register and help spread the word about this important virtual fundraising event, because breast cancer does not stop just because of COVID19. Your support would be vital to preserve the sense of community through this new virtual platform, even though we will be walking Where We Are. The added benefit of this new virtual experience for volunteers, would be the opportunity to join Komen Inland Empire through social media and various digital mediums to help spread awareness and show support for survivors, thrivers and families impacted by breast cancer.

For information about Walk volunteering email info@komenie.org or call Ph: 951-676-7465.

Do my team members have to register?
Every participant, whether walking individually or as a member of a team must register so that we can collect a signed waiver from each participant and have the ability to communicate with everyone about important event information. We also hope that members of teams will be inspired to fundraise during these critical times.

Can donations made to a team be split or shared among team members?
We are unable to split or transfer donations between individual and team accounts.

Do you require fundraising?
We do encourage all participants to fundraise above the entry fee, but it is not required. This event is about going from awareness to taking action. Just imagine the impact if every participant raises only $100 we will bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars to support local screening, treatment and educational programs in our community!

Are survivors and those living with metastatic breast cancer expected to fundraise?
Your fundraising will help us fight breast cancer on every front; fund more research, provide more care for those impacted by breast cancer, including metastatic breast cancer, provide opportunities for involvement and community action, provide mechanisms for advocacy and education, and keep the spot-light on this disease as we move toward better treatments and greater understanding.

More specifically, with the funds raised at the MORE THAN PINK Walk and other activities, Komen Inland Empire continues to make an impact in the following ways:

  • Better detection, prevention and treatment of all breast cancers, especially deadly metastatic breast cancer.
  • Increase access to and participation in innovative clinical trials.
  • Improve access to quality breast health services by funding essential patient navigator.
  • Provide underserved patients with low- or no-cost screening, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Eliminate barriers to care by supporting life-changing services like transportation, medication access and childcare.
  • Eliminate disparities in breast cancer care and outcomes by assessing gaps in access and quality.
  • Provide accurate and balanced information, support and compassion through the Komen Breast Care Helpline.
  • Advocate for federal research funding and access to affordable, high-quality breast health and cancer care services.
  • Provide the public and our elected officials with factual, evidence-based breast cancer information.

Is my registration fee a donation?
No. Registration fees provide you access to the event and help to offset the costs for things like security, permits, tents, and other operational items. For this reason the fees are not tax-deductible donations. Any donations you make in addition to the registration fee is a tax deductible donation and you will receive a receipt to keep for tax purposes when you donate. Your donations and fundraising help fund our work to save lives.

Does the money raised benefit people in our community?
Funds raised by the Komen MORE THAN PINK Walk series supports Komen's mission to save lives and end breast cancer through breakthrough research and ensuring all people receive the care they need. Through your support, our neighbors will benefit from research discoveries, public policy advocacy and direct patient support services.

When and how will I receive my fundraising recognition gift?
Participants are encouraged to fundraise until November 10th. Approximately 30 days after the MORE THAN PINK Walk, participants that have raised $250 or more will receive an email with information about their earned gift level and instructions on how to redeem. After choosing, the item will be shipped to the registered address in our system. Susan G. Komen reserves the right to substitute an item of equal value if recognition items are unavailable. Redemption certificates must be redeemed within four weeks.

Are patients, survivors, and those living with metastatic breast cancer expected to fundraise?
Just like our other participants, those who’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer have an opportunity to earn fundraising recognition items for their efforts! Many of our highest individual fundraisers are survivors and those affected by metastatic disease.

Why are you changing the name from Race for the CureŽ to the MORE THAN PINK Walk?
This change is part of the ongoing evolution of Susan G. Komen and builds on Komen’s successful and engaging MORE THAN PINK brand platform first introduced in 2016. MORE THAN PINK highlights the fact the organization and those who support our work are much more than a color and enables us to better connect our supporters to the full breadth of the work we do every day to help save lives from breast cancer. The change from a Race to a Walk also aligns the fundraising event with the experience of the vast majority of our participants.

The change from a Race to a Walk also aligns the fundraising event with the experience of the vast majority of our participants.

Does this mean Komen is no longer in a hurry to cure breast cancer?
Absolutely not. Our commitment to creating a world without breast cancer is stronger than ever. This new approach is part of an ongoing evolution of our organization intended to better connect the public to the impact they’re making on our work to save lives, and in turn, help us generate the critical financial support needed for us to be able to accomplish our Bold Goal to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026.

Is Komen moving away from pink?
Absolutely not. Pink is the principal color of the breast cancer movement and remains our signature color as well. This evolution helps to reinforce that the movement is more than a color and that it’s not enough just to raise awareness by wearing pink.
We will be introducing you to our pillars of our organization: Research, Care, Community, and Action. These pillars will help you and our other supporters understand the impact you make when you fundraise for this year’s event.

Other than the name change, what difference will I see?
The biggest difference is that the MORE THAN PINK Walk will not have a run element. We’re focusing on making the event a walk which reflects what the vast majority of participants have done at our Race events in recent history. A walk will create a strong sense of community among participants and provide opportunities for personal and emotional engagement. By focusing on the walk as a fundraising event, we can motivate participants to be active and involved and increase the fundraising potential of the event.

How do I use the Mobile App to Fundraise?
